At the moment the board of PAE has 6 members and 1 candidate member who is co-opting with the board. The candidate member will be nominated at the next General Assembly.

Statement PAE

General:

Chronic pain effects an estimated 100 million people across Europe according to the "Survey of chronic pain in Europe: prevalence, impact on daily life, and treatment" by Breivik H, Collett B, Ventafridda V, Cohen R, Gallacher D and published in the European Journal of Pain 2006;10(4):287-333 (11) Chronic pain has a devastating impact on those who are suffering. Not only do they have a medical condition to contend with but the social and economical impact on the sufferers and on society is enormous.

Mission:

To improve the quality of life of people living with chronic pain in Europe

Aims:

Promote awareness for chronic pain Promote an European policy on chronic pain Reduce the impact of chronic pain on the European society on all areas

Ways to reach the aims:

Working in close relation with the other stakeholders Gather and distribute relative information on chronic pain from the patients point of view Establish a good relation with potential sponsors Promote and or initiate research on chronic pain

Statutes

The General Assembly of PAE has agreed with the statutes of the Pain Alliance Europe aisbl on November 29th 2011. The legal incorporation took place on November 30th 2011 according Belgian law. The official letter from the department of Justice was dated January 25th 2012. PAE received aisbl number: 0843.498.142

Supporting Companies

During its process of growing to a European alliance PAE has received the guidance of EFNA's board and especially from Mary Baker and Alistair Newton. For these activities EFNA received financial support just and only to spend on activities to start the new alliance. These support came from Grunenthal, Pfizer, Mundipharma International Limited and Medronic.

For the year 2012 Restricted grants are promised by Pfizer and Mundipharma of € 25.000,= and by Grunenthal for logistic and activity support.

Achievements

PAE first big achievement was the launch of PAE in the European parliament hosted by Marian Harkin MEP on November 29th 2011.
PAE second big achievement was the launch of this website in the European parliament on march 28th 2012.
Other achievements are the start of a close relation whit EFIC, European Federation of IASP Chapters, in relation whit the SIP symposiums and the year of special pain conditions.
